Brief Description of Project
People’s Resource Centre (PRC), a civil society organization based in Delhi, is documenting existing practices and emerging trends in urban and periurban farming in Indian cities. Urban farming may provide a systemic alternative to urban scarcity and severe ecological footprint and make cities and urban communities more resilient and self-reliant. In most cities, this issue is closely linked with the condition of rivers and proposed developments on the river banks. Therefore, this project also involves the study of inland waterways and riverfront development projects coming up in the city regions. The project starts in the first week of December 2020 and all the project deliverables will have to be submitted by February 28, 2021.
Description of work
Conducting field research and documentation in city/cities (specified in the next section). This will involve taking and recording interviews with urban farmers, terrace gardeners, and communities living on the river banks or (likely to be) affected by infrastructure developments on river banks. Taking relevant and good-quality photographs and video testimonies, detailed field accounts in writing, and one publication-ready report (one for each city) will be the key deliverables. The selected candidates can follow their own research schedule but will have to work in close coordination with the research team of PRC.
Locations
Cluster 1: Patna, Ranchi, Bodhgaya; Cluster 2: Pune, Mumbai, Indore. Applicant should have their own place of stay in any of these locations and should be willing to travel to other cities in their cluster. Applicants who are local residents of any of these locations will be given preference.
Remuneration
Remuneration for this position is negotiable and will be based on prior work experiences of the applicant the number of cities being covered. Remuneration will be in multiple instalments on pro-rata basis linked with the delivery of pre-agreed interim outputs.
